“Freedom must be a very difficult word to define, Yaw.”
“Freedom is an easily misunderstood concept, Mog. There are limits to freedom and there are responsibilities that come with freedom. You are free to smoke, but not in my face. You are free to eat, but not from my plate. You are free to be happy, but not at my expense. You have to know what you can and cannot do with freedom.
“Freedom does not mean that you can do anything you want.”

I think responsible freedom is a concept that individuals can all feel security with. If we act with responsibility to ourselves, towards the environment and to others in society (from our neighbours to the wider scope of the world) we are acting above the law and any other rules. No one can dispute an act that is good for everyone.
It is a better world where individuals practice responsible lifestyles it would be rare to even have the urge to commit a selfish, mindless or irresponsible act. Why would you do it when you realise that the consequences make it harder for someone else?
Sure all that may not happen in our lifetimes but I think it’s worth striving towards for the sustainability and survivability of humankind.

Let’s hope that most people know what “responsible freedom” means. As for those who don’t — those who think that they can behave irrationally and irresponsibly in the name of “freedom” will hopefully turn wise, see the consequences of their acts, and change for the better.

Responsible freedom is a gift with a condition. God had given humankind freedom with ethical connotation. Individual’ or group’ or community’ or nation’ freedom can be a burden or insecurity to others. The authocratic country may have the freedom to curtail certain activities to her citizens but this does not mean that she has all the right to curtail human rights over her citizens. Freedom should be exercised with humane face in order to uphold the value of responsible freedom

Yes, freedom does come with conditions. Freedom does not mean you have the right to wantonly exercise your liberties. Freedom comes with responsibilities. If one is irresponsible, then his freedom should be curtailed because he doesn’t know how to use it wisely.
That God has given us this freedom, or “free will” as the religious call it, is really the choice between “right” and “wrong.”
National freedom can be almost nil in an autocracy. But if it is a wise parent/government disciplining unruly children/subjects, until they can exercise their freedom more responsibly, then it can be the more intelligent choice.
